Returns & Delivery Policy
Estimated dispatch times can be found on each product page as they can vary.
We aim to process orders promptly, typically within 1–3 working days of receiving your order. Some items may take longer depending on availability.
Delivery Charges
Delivery charges are calculated automatically at checkout based on your order items and delivery location.
UK Mainland Delivery
- Standard delivery: £3.95
- Free delivery on orders over £125
At our discretion, some items may carry a fixed delivery fee and may not qualify for free delivery.
Remote UK Areas
Additional delivery charges may apply depending on your location. Any applicable charges will be confirmed before your order is dispatched.
Delivery Service Provider
The delivery service may vary depending on the product and supplier. Our preferred delivery partner is DPD.
Note About Delivery Times
We do our best to meet the estimated dispatch and delivery times shown on our website, but delays can occasionally occur due to factors outside our control.
If you are booking decorators or arranging installation, we recommend allowing some flexibility for potential delivery changes. We cannot accept responsibility for decorating or installation costs resulting from delivery delays.
If your order has not arrived within the expected timeframe and you have not received a courier update, please get in touch and we will be happy to help.
Returns Policy
We accept returns for eligible items in accordance with your statutory consumer rights. We may also offer an extended returns period of up to 30 days for certain products, subject to the conditions below.
If you change your mind about an online purchase, you may have a statutory right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving your goods. Where applicable, you then have a further 14 days to return the goods.
Items returned because you have changed your mind should be unused and in their original condition wherever reasonably possible. You may handle goods only as much as is reasonably necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning. Where goods have been handled beyond this, we may make a reasonable deduction from any refund to reflect any resulting reduction in value.
If a return is due to our error, such as an incorrect item being supplied, we will cover reasonable return shipping costs.
Refunds are typically processed within up to four weeks, including:
- 5-10 business days transit time back to us
- 3-5 business days processing time
- 5-10 business days bank processing time
To arrange a return, please contact support@colourstead.co.uk with your order number and details of the item. We will respond with return instructions.
Standard Returns (14 Days)
If you change your mind within 14 days of receiving your order, you may return eligible items in accordance with your statutory cancellation rights.
Items should be returned in an unused and resalable condition wherever reasonably possible, with their original packaging and labels intact.
You should handle goods only as much as is reasonably necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning. If an item has been used, damaged, opened or otherwise handled beyond this, a reasonable deduction may be made from the refund to reflect the resulting reduction in value.
Items That Cannot Normally Be Returned
Due to their nature or because they are produced, cut or supplied specifically to order, certain products may not be eligible for cancellation where an applicable statutory exception applies. These include:
- Cut or custom wallpaper lengths
- Cut fabrics
- Part rolls of wallpaper
- Samples
- Tinted or made-to-order paint, including paints prepared specifically to your requirements
Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights in relation to faulty, damaged, incorrectly supplied or misdescribed goods.
Unless the item is faulty, damaged or incorrectly supplied, return postage costs are normally the responsibility of the customer.
Paint Returns
Please take particular care when selecting your paint colour, finish and quantity before placing your order.
Paint is difficult to return to stock once opened. Opening a tin can expose the paint to air, introduce contaminants or dried paint flakes, alter the contents or leave the product with less than its original volume. Once opened or used, paint may therefore no longer be suitable for resale as a new product.
If you intend to return paint because you have changed your mind, please do not open, mix, tint or use the paint.
Tinted-to-Order Paint
Little Greene paints and archived Farrow & Ball colours are tinted to order specifically for each customer. They are prepared specifically for your order and cannot normally be resold as new. Where the statutory exception for personalised or made-to-order goods applies, these products are not eligible for cancellation due to a change of mind.
Opened Paint
If paint that is otherwise eligible for cancellation has been opened, mixed or used, its value may be reduced because it may no longer be suitable for resale. A reasonable deduction may therefore be made from any refund to reflect the reduction in value.
Where available, we strongly recommend ordering a sample or sample pot before committing to a larger quantity. This allows you to assess the colour, finish and appearance in your own space and lighting before opening a full-size tin.
This does not affect your statutory rights where paint is faulty, damaged, incorrectly supplied or otherwise does not conform to the contract.
Wallpaper Returns
Please check your wallpaper carefully as soon as you receive it and before cutting, hanging or otherwise altering it.
We recommend checking:
- Colour and design
- Pattern and repeat
- Batch or dye lot
- Quantity and roll length
- Roll condition
- Print quality and any visible defects
Please do not cut or install wallpaper until you are satisfied that it is the correct product and that there are no visible defects.
If you identify a potential fault or defect, stop hanging immediately and contact us before continuing. Please do not cut, paste or install further rolls until we have had an opportunity to assess the issue and advise you on how to proceed.
Wallpaper that has been cut, hung, pasted, damaged or otherwise altered may no longer be suitable for return and may be excluded from cancellation where the relevant statutory exception applies.
Continuing to install wallpaper after identifying a potential defect may make it more difficult to assess the original issue and could result in additional decorating or installation costs being incurred. We cannot accept responsibility for additional decorating or installation costs incurred after a potential issue has been identified where you have continued with the installation without contacting us.
Cut or custom wallpaper lengths, part rolls and other wallpaper produced specifically to your requirements are not normally eligible for cancellation.
Extended Returns (14–30 Days)
We want you to have plenty of time to check your order and make sure everything is ready before your decorating or installation begins. As an additional benefit to our customers, we offer a voluntary extended returns period of up to 30 days, beyond your statutory cancellation rights.
This gives you extra time to check your products and prepare for your project, particularly if your decorating or installation is not due to start immediately.
To be eligible for our extended returns period, items must be:
- Unused
- In their original packaging
- In resalable condition
Tinted-to-order, made-to-order, personalised or otherwise specially prepared products are excluded from this extended returns period.
As this is a voluntary extended returns service, we reserve the right to refuse discretionary returns or make a reasonable deduction where an item has been used, opened, damaged or otherwise reduced in value.
This extended returns period is in addition to, and does not affect, your statutory consumer rights.
Faulty, Damaged or Incorrect Items
If your item is faulty, damaged or incorrectly supplied, please stop using the product and contact us before continuing with your decorating or installation.
- Stop painting, hanging, cutting, pasting or otherwise using the product
- Contact us as soon as possible with your order number and details of the issue
- We may request photographs showing the problem
- Please retain all product labels and packaging until the issue has been resolved
Please do not continue to use or install a product where you have identified a potential fault. Continuing to use or install a product after identifying an issue may make it more difficult for us to assess the original problem and may result in additional decorating or installation costs being incurred.
We strongly recommend contacting us for advice before carrying out any further work where you are unsure whether a product is faulty or suitable for use.
Where goods are faulty, damaged, incorrectly supplied or otherwise do not conform to your statutory rights, we will provide an appropriate remedy, which may include a replacement, repair or refund.
Where applicable, reasonable return costs for faulty, damaged or incorrectly supplied goods will be covered by us.
Important Notes

- Always check wallpaper for colour, batch and quality before cutting or hanging.
- Paint should be checked for colour, finish and suitability before opening or use.
- Returns must be authorised by customer service before being sent.
- Nothing in this policy affects your statutory consumer rights.
